Marathon Treehouse — Ultra Quiet Getaway
A proper stilted Keys house that lives up in the tree canopy on a quiet residential street in Marathon, mid-way down the island chain. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, washer-dryer and a big deck with fans — this is the practical pick on this list, the one you book with another couple or kids in tow. The location is the quiet kind of good: three minutes to a public boat ramp (there's space to park your boat at the house), six minutes to Curry Hammock State Park, which protects one of the best stretches of thatch-palm hammock left in the Keys and has easy kayaking over the flats. Free bikes are included for the grocery and restaurant runs. Sombrero Beach and the Seven Mile Bridge are both a short drive. No resort frills — just air-conditioning that works and a neighborhood where the loudest thing at night is wind in the palms.
Reaching Marathon and what the house has
Marathon is in the middle Keys. Key West's airport (EYW) is about 84 km away in a straight line and Miami's (MIA) about 133 km. Our record puts Curry Hammock State Park six minutes away, and the house has bikes for guests and driveway parking for six vehicles.
