When to Go to the Jungle — A Month-by-Month Planner for 17 Destinations

How to read it

Three shades. Deep green is the prime window: dry season, firm trails, the forest at its most accessible. Light green is a shoulder: wetter, cheaper, emptier, and often the version regulars prefer. Sand means the heaviest rain or storm season, when we would point you somewhere else.

Every rating comes from the seasons described on that destination's own page, which in turn come from the Journal's country guides. Cloud forests and the Amazon never truly dry out, so treat their light-green months as workable rather than wet.
