The Tropical House — Jungle & Sea Views
A Thai-style house set in a coconut orchard on the hillside above Thong Nai Pan Yai, the laid-back double bay on Koh Phangan's northeast corner — about as far from the Full Moon Party scene as the island gets. From the house you look over the treetops to the ocean with jungle mountains behind; the beach and the village's restaurants and minimarts are down the hill. You will want a scooter: the east side's roads are steep and the ride from the pier takes a good half hour, but that distance is exactly why Thong Nai Pan stays quiet. Days here are simple — swim at Yai or walk over the headland to the even prettier Noi beach, rent a kayak, eat grilled fish. At around $80 a night for a whole house with that view it is one of the better-value sleeps on the island. Expect orchard wildlife noises and bring repellent for dusk.
Getting around Thong Nai Pan and what the house has
The host's notes on getting around are practical. Shared taxis run from the village to the pier on a morning and an afternoon schedule, and motorbikes or cars can be rented locally for day trips; the host will say where, and can book boat or car tours. The host greets guests on arrival, and luggage drop-off is allowed, which helps when the ferry and check-in times do not line up.
Airbnb lists it as an entire home with one bedroom, two beds and one bathroom, for up to three guests. There is a kitchen with a stove, a fridge and a coffee maker, wifi, a patio and a backyard, and free parking for a rented bike or car. The host can recommend babysitters. House rules are no pets, no smoking and no parties.
Down the hill, the host lists a 7-Eleven for basics, local restaurants and bars, a yoga studio and dive companies on the beach. Longtail boats and speedboats leave for day trips around the island, and hiking tracks lead over to Thong Nai Pan Noi and to the Than Sadet waterfall.
