Shipping Container Jungle Cabin, San Miguel
A converted shipping container at the edge of San Miguel, the village across Lake Petén Itzá from Flores, that shows what a good host can do with a small box and a lot of forest. The cabin has a proper orthopaedic mattress, screened windows and its own bathroom, and most of the living happens outside: an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit for the evenings, a hammock and a covered dining area with benches. It is quiet and private and, as the host says, a less touristy side of Guatemala, yet Flores is a five-minute boat ride and the Tayasal archaeological site and the Maya museum are on the doorstep. Tikal tours pick up locally. Sleeps two. A Superhost with seven years here and a 4.95 from more than a hundred reviews.
