Eco-friendly Treehouse with Sea View

This is the Casa na Árvore at Pousada Paraty Paradiso in Paraty-Mirim, and the pousada's own page is now where it is described. The suite is 8 square meters, set on a historic jackfruit tree with no cement or nails in the tree, and sized for one couple: a double bed under a mosquito net, a fan, a minibar and a plug-in insect repellent. The bathroom is open to the air, with a hot and cold shower fixed to the trunk, and the veranda has glass walls and a hammock. A lookout gives an open view of the sea over the Atlantic Forest, and an easy trail of under two minutes leads to the house.

It is one of eight named suites. The others are Mirante, Container, Fogo with its glass mezzanine for sunrise and sunset, Ar, Água, Bamboo and Sol, which the pousada describes as built for comfort and easy access. Everything was built new on land that once held a 1978 wattle-and-daub house. For wellness there is a Finnish sauna and an ofurô soaking tub heated to 35 to 37 °C; the site gives no hours and does not say whether they cost extra, so ask when you book. The pousada also hosts weddings, birthdays and yoga retreats.

Beside the Paraty-Mirim road and the Carapitanga river, the Galpão Social covers more than 2,000 square meters and takes groups of up to 100 for school visits, talks and parties. The pousada's Beija Flor educational project meets there every day, and its program includes a caiçara canoe workshop and activities with guests.

The federal APA de Cairuçu, whose territory includes the Paraty-Mirim Indigenous land, was created by decree in December 1983 and covers 34,690.72 hectares of mainland and 63 islands. A single ICMBio unit in Paraty manages it together with Serra da Bocaina National Park and the Tamoios Ecological Station, and it protects rare and threatened species, the scenery, the region's water systems and its caiçara communities.
