It is the most finished stay in the valley: organic linens, high-end furnishings, a Finnish wood-burning sauna, and a network of private hiking trails that reach four waterfalls on the property, walked with a guide. Toucans, hummingbirds and monkeys are the neighbours. The cabin sleeps four across two bedrooms and is strictly adults only, with no children under twelve. Mindo village, with its birding guides, chocolate makers and the cable car to the waterfalls, is a short drive down the hill.
Reaching Mindo and what the cabin has
The cabin stands on the host's private 13-acre reserve, which the listing places inside the UNESCO biosphere reserve around Mindo, about two miles outside the village. The Mariposario de Mindo, the village's butterfly farm, is a 15-minute walk down the road along the river. A taxi to the village costs about $5 and takes about eight minutes, or you can walk it in about 40. Quito's airport (UIO) is about 47 km away in a straight line, and the host arranges transport with one trusted driver.
