Ella Treehouse is the easy, affordable hill-country pick: a treehouse for two — the 'Ella Treehouse Pearl' — plus newer A-frame cabins out at Rawana Ella, in tea-estate and jungle-edge country. The location does a lot of the work. You're about five minutes by tuk-tuk from Ella town and within walking distance of the waterfalls, Ella Rock and the cave, so you can base yourself here and hit most of what people come to Ella for without a driver. It's a small independent operation rather than a resort, priced for backpackers and couples who'd rather spend the savings on the train ride in. The hill-country setting means cool evenings and mist rolling through the tea. Verdict: cheap, well-placed and unfussy — the practical choice for doing Ella on foot.
