Parrot Nest Treehouse
The original Cayo treehouse lodge, hosting on Airbnb for twelve years with close to three hundred reviews. The treehouses sit in a hundred-foot Guanacaste tree on a private peninsula with the Mopan River on three sides, a few minutes outside the village of Bullet Tree Falls. Rooms are simple and screened, with a fan, electricity and hot water in shared bathrooms a short walk away; this is a lodge, not a villa, and it is priced like one. What you get for it is the river: free tubing from the property, a sandy swimming spot, and a garden that the host lists as home to parrots, toucans, coatis, agoutis, otters and giant green iguanas, plus a few rescue animals. Breakfast and dinner are cooked on site for a few dollars, and there is Wi-Fi in the common area. Bring earplugs if the howlers bother you; most guests say they are the best part.
