Boquete Nature Bungalow
A 350-square-foot bungalow in the Jaramillo neighbourhood above Boquete, the coffee-and-cloud-forest town in the highlands of Chiriquí. The bungalow looks from its private balcony straight down onto its own piece of jungle and river, and guests have logged kinkajous, possums, cacomistles and agoutis, with birds feeding in the trees close by. Inside is a queen bed, a full-size washer and dryer and reliable hot water, which matters at this altitude. The village is a fifteen-to-twenty-minute walk along a covered path or a cheap taxi ride, far enough to lose the downtown noise. Boquete is a different Panama from the islands: cool nights, coffee farms, and the Quetzal trail up the flanks of Volcán Barú. Thirteen years of hosting, rated 4.92.
Getting into Boquete and what the bungalow has
The bungalow is in Centro Jaramillo, on the hill above Boquete. The host's directions for town are short: a covered stairway cuts down across the road's switchbacks to the village in 15 to 20 minutes on foot, and a taxi costs about $2 to $3. Small shuttle buses and taxis pass the house often, and taxis for the ride back up are easy to find in the village center, so a car is optional. If you drive, there is free parking right in front.
Airbnb lists it as a tiny home for two, with one bedroom, one bed and one bathroom. The kitchen is a full one, with an oven, a microwave, a toaster, a kettle and a coffee maker, so a week of cooking in is easy. There is wifi, a ceiling fan (no air conditioning is listed), and self check-in with a keypad. The host allows long stays. No pets, no smoking and no parties.
